'Lots of socks'....Downs Syndrome Awareness Day..21st march 2012

In honour of my son, the babies I know who became poorly with DS and are now with my son in heaven, children of close friends, and for my cousin who holds a big chunk of my heart.....I am wearing odd socks.

This is the activity that celebrates and remembers those with Downs Syndrome...what a fun thing to do that is easy for people to take part in....to tribute those who were born with that extra chromosome...that extra love chromosome..cos that is all it is.

Quoted from International Downs Syndrome page...

Wear LOTS OF SOCKS!

Down Syndrome International invites everyone across the world to wear LOTS OF SOCKS on 21 March 2013 to raise awareness on World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD).

We want to get people talking about WDSD on 21 March, and we can do this if we all wear socks…BUT NOT JUST ANY SOCKS…brightly coloured socks, mismatched socks, long socks, printed socks, 1 sock…maybe even 3 socks (or EXTRA socks) for 3 chromosomes. Or if you don’t normally wear socks then wear them. Just so long as they are socks which are on display and people will ask you about.

AND WHY STOP AT SOCKS? Wear brightly coloured clothing if you like, say if it’s too hot for socks. The choice is yours, but we ask you to join us in wearing something which will help tell the world about WDSD.

It is easy to do, so whether you are at home, nursery, school, university, work, play, travel, holiday or anywhere, join in!

On 21 March 2013, wear LOTS OF SOCKS and invite all your friends, family and colleagues to do the same.

Jim and I were blessed to have birthed a child with that extra love gene...because never in my whole 37 years of life had I ever met a baby who loved so completely, and gave so completely, as he did.
He captured hearts with a glance, or a smile, or a 'eh eh eh', and sometimes it was just a peek at a photograph that did it.
We never ever ever felt like we had drew the short straw, how could we? he is beautiful!!!...we never grieved for our son having a rare form of Downs Syndrome...we only grieve that he couldn't stay.

My boy, my love, he drew people in.  He made them feel so special and honoured to just know him..they told us that.  My boy who will be remembered for always, not because of his extra chromosome, but because of his capacity as such a tiny wee being to give love and touch hearts.

here are some of the photographs from those who are remembering and honouring that extra love gene today xxxxx lovely lovely people xxxx
